My scientific interest is to understand the signaling mechanisms that regulate stem / progenitor cell maintenance versus differentiation and thus controling organ size during development. And also how extra cellular matrix (ECM) signaling via cell mechanics dictates cell fate choices during development. I am trying to address these questions using mouse models for pancreas development and human ES cell differentiation towards pancreas lineage and optimizing protocols to efficiently differentiate pancreatic progenitors towards insulin producing functional beta cells for future stem cell therapies.
