Karolina Ditrychova, a PhD student from the Brickman group at DanStem participated at an event organized by Czexpats, connecting Czech scientists abroad together with scientists back home. The event focused on sharing the experience and advices among each other. Participants could sign up as a "czexpat" on the organizers webpage via an interactive map where one can trace scientists also via their travel history.
The event took place on 10th of October at The University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague and it mainly focused on students from other schools and institutes, who are considering doing PhD abroad.
Five PhD students and Postdocs from different countries in Europe took part at this event and gave a talk about their experience, both scientific and personal, during their journey abroad.
Karolina, who came to Denmark via the CPH BioScience program has shared her experience and gave some advice to help in the process of making the right decision.
“I wanted to show, that it can be tough, but the gained value is fantastic; the great science, friends and new exciting experiences and opportunities I got are all worth it”. – Karolina Ditrychova
In addition to that, the science expats mentored a short workshop about how to write CV, motivation and cover letter.
I was happy to participate and meet new young and motivated students, and maybe help a bit. From the comments we have received via the survey, it looked like all the participants (35) found it helpful. I will happily participate again in similar events, if I am invited. – Karolina Ditrychova
The organizers hope to follow up this great initiative with events in other Czech cities.
