The Head of Laboratory and Platforms will together with the Executive Director and in collaboration with the scientific management and the Head of Administration participate in formulating and implementing the overall vision and goals of research support at the DanStem.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Biology (DanStem) addresses fundamental research questions in stem cell and developmental biology and has activities focused on the translation of promising basic research results into new therapeutic strategies for cancer and chronic diseases. DanStem is a vibrant, internationally diverse and ambitious research center with state-of-the-art facilities located at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We are seeking Head of Laboratory and Platforms to lead the Research Platforms and Laboratories team at DanStem.

Responsibilities

The Head of Laboratory and Platforms will together with the Executive Director and in collaboration with the scientific management and the Head of Administration participate in formulating and implementing the overall vision and goals of research support at the DanStem. More specifically, the responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage the Research Platforms and Laboratories team (https://danstem.ku.dk/platforms/), supporting research technology services for flow cytometry, imaging, genomics, and stem cell culture as well as wet lab facilities
  • Liaise among the management, scientist, and other staff groups
  • Coordinate and further develop technology activities and cooperation with international institutes, other Novo Nordisk Foundation research centers and Faculty departments

The Head of Laboratory and Platforms reports directly to the DanStem Executive Director.

Qualifications, competences and experience 

Candidates are expected to have a PhD degree in natural or health sciences and postdoctoral research experience. In addition, we are seeking a candidate who

  • Has experience in research, a variety of research support areas and organizational leadership
  • Is proactive, innovative, analytical, goal- and solution-oriented
  • Has a strong ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and frequent deadlines
  • Has an analytical mindset and excellent cooperation and communication skills in English.
  • Thrives as part of a team, as well as in independent work, and develops good relations in a multi-cultural research environment

Employment conditions

With an initial duration until the end of 2021, the employment is planned to start in spring 2020 or upon agreement with the chosen candidate. The place of work is at DanStem, University of Copenhagen, Blegdamsvej 3B, Copenhagen.

The position, with formal employment title of Senior executive consultant at the University of Copenhagen, will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). To the salary is added a monthly contribution to a pension fund according to the collective agreement, and a supplement can be negotiated, depending on the successful candidate’s experiences and qualifications.
