How intercellular signaling pathways affect gene activity and cell fate is a central question in development and stem cell differentiation. The mechanisms are not well understood, but signal transducing transcription factors (TFs) are thought to recruit chromatin-associated proteins (CAPs) to modulate gene activity. Understanding how transient signals can lead to lasting effects on cell fate decisions is important for controlling stem cell differentiation towards endoderm and pancreas. My project aims to identify CAPs associated with developmentally important intercellular signaling pathways and determine their function in response to signaling.
